How do you create an eCoC XML (IVI 2.0)?
For information only; no rights can be derived from it. Only the electronic CoC (IVI) is legally valid.
An eCoC is an XML file following the IVI 2.0 standard (Initial Vehicle Information). The file has to pass two checks before it is accepted.
Two checks: structure and content
- Structure: the file is well-formed XML and validates against the official IVI 2.0 schema (XSD).
- Content: the ICM (IVI Checking Module) checks mandatory fields, logical relationships and consistency.
A missing or wrong tag is one of the most common reasons an eCoC is rejected.
What is in the file?
The data from your CoC: VIN, masses, dimensions, axles, couplings and so on. Some fields need care. Dimensions can be a fixed value or a minimum/maximum. Masses can be given per axle or per axle group. For a tri-axle trailer with a lift axle, or a trailer with more than one coupling device, this has to be filled in consistently.
Version numbers per VIN and stage
Every eCoC carries a version number per combination of VIN and stage. Version 1 is the first eCoC. A correction becomes version 2. You never overwrite a sealed file: every correction is a new sealed version.
How it works in On Road
You don't write XML. For each vehicle type you set up one template with the fixed data of the type. For each vehicle you complete the VIN and the options. On Road creates the XML file, checks structure and content, and only seals it when the check passes. Version numbers are tracked per VIN and stage.
FAQ
How do I create an eCoC XML file?
Following the IVI 2.0 standard, validated against the official XSD and the ICM rules, then sealed with XAdES. In On Road this starts from a template per vehicle type.
What is IVI 2.0?
Initial Vehicle Information: the agreed XML structure for eCoC data.
Can I test an eCoC before submitting it?
Yes. The official tools (EUCARIS/RDW) allow testing against the XSD and ICM. On Road also checks every file before sealing it.
How do I correct a mistake in an eCoC?
With a new version for the same VIN and stage. The old file is not overwritten.
What if the IVI schema changes?
On Road follows up updates to the IVI schema, so your templates keep matching the version in force.
Do I have to enter all data again for each vehicle?
No. The fixed data sits in the template of the type. For each vehicle you complete the VIN and the options.
